Monster Mash

Greetings Internet!
For our first foray in the illustration blogosphere, Yellow House, tackled classic movie monsters. The idea was for each of us to create an illustration that depicted a well known monster in our own style. Prepare to see monstrous things. Stay posted for new theme and another round of art next week.

King Kong is one my favorite films.  I love it for its photography which at times evokes the etchings of Gustave DorĂ©, for its stunning use of stop motion animation, and its classic beauty and the beast story.  While Kong is essentially a giant silverback gorilla, I wanted to make him a little more than that.  I was inspired by the Monkey King of Chinese lore, as Kong in my opinion is the king of the apes. I wanted him to look different than any known ape with more than his stature distinguishing him.  I love the sadness of the character, while he's the "monster" of the film he is certainly not the villain. Here’s to King Kong one of the greatest movies ever put to film.  If you haven’t seen it check it out and if it’s been a while give it another spin.

DAVID SLADEK

This is a new take on the classic Dracula. He was a sick doctor who was dying of a rare blood disease. In a desperate attempt to save his own life, he drained his wife of her blood and infused himself with it. To his horror he found that the fix was only temporary. With his body weakening, his spirit broken, and his heart turned to stone, the monster inside of him took over. He surgically implanted devices in his face to draw blood from his chosen victims. The implanted "fangs" draw blood and transport it directly to the heart, through a series of tubes. Being a doctor allows him to gain access to personal medical records which he uses to find those who have the blood type he needs. He moves from victim to victim draining them of their blood so he can stay alive. As a disguise, he wears a fake beard and makeup to conceal his hideous scars and deformities caused by the implants.

@gojira54: SHIT SON, HIT ME UPPP!!!!!

The movies got it all wrong. Godzilla is just a hapless teen super lizard who doesn't look where he's going... (6 hours Photoshop)

This is my take on the creature from the black lagoon. I went the direction of a horse fish monster, something aquatic, with 4 lower flippers and powerful upper arms. Like a centaur. So it can swim and strangle people at the same time.
